The SVP: Turning Concern into Action
The Society at St Hugh and St Joseph has 10 members. At the Parish level, the main part of our work is visits to the lonely, elderly, disabled,or housebound. We meet on every Monday , except the first of the month, at 19:30 in St Joseph’s Parish House. New members are very welcome.
If we get a request for help , we respond as best as we can. This may be for food, furniture or advice.
We are currently supporting the education of students from poor backgrounds in India via our Student Sponsorship Scheme. Financial support from England and Wales covers about 75% of the costs of this programme, with the local Indian SVP Conferences raising the rest. As such, our work is vital in ensuring these opportunities continue to exist. Sponsorship starts from just £15 a year. If you are able to help please pick up one of the pink booklets from the back of church, or visit our website: www.twinnage.org.uk/resources.
We take part in the annual SVP Pilgrimage to Walsingham Mass for the Sick. The Parish has an annual SVP Mass for the Sick.
The Conference is twinned with a Conference in Guyana. All Conferences give quarterly payments to their respective Twin. All Conferences may respond to a request from any disaster area by contributing to the SVP Disaster Fund.
The St Hugh and St Joseph Conference is part of the Cambridge District, which is part of the East Anglia Central Council.
