The Cambridgeshire Young Adult Catholics (YAKs) formed in January 2014 as a group for people between 21 and 35 to get together to learn more about their faith, as well as being an opportunity to make new friends and get to know other members of our community that little bit better. YAKs are currently drawn from three churches in the west Cambridgeshire area: St Joseph’s, St Neots; St Hugh of Lincoln, Buckden; and Sacred Heart, St Ives. We meet in St Joseph’s parish house at 18:30 after the evening Mass on the last Sunday of every month. Our meetings consist of a period of reflection on the week’s readings and news, led by Fr Angel in the front room, followed by food and a catch up in the dining room. Being young and trendy people, there is also a Facebook Group where you will find all the latest updates. Come along to our next get-together and find out more!
Please do not worry too much about the age limit – no-one’s really counting!
As part of our integration within the wider community we aim to hold several events throughout the year at our respective churches. Our first event was a Summer BBQ and was held on Saturday 12th July in the garden of St Joseph’s Church. It was well attended by parishioners from both Buckden and St Neots. Around 80 people in all came for an afternoon of food, fun and games. We had a makeshift piñata and a quiz for the children and croquet and boules for the adults. We would like to thank everybody who came, and everyone who helped out, for making it such a great success!
