Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other Sacraments. Through baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission.
(Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1213.)
Preparing for Baptism
Before a child is baptized, parents are required to attend a short preparation course. The course, which usually is held four times a year, is completed in one evening session. Course dates are as follows:
- 11 December 2019 at the Parish House, St Joseph’s, 7pm – 9pm.
- 11 March 2020 at the Claret Centre, St Hugh’s, 7pm – 9pm.
To apply for Baptism
Fill in an application form, which can be found in the porch of the church: Baptism Booking Form (green paper) and Godparent Form (white paper). Hand the completed forms to the parish priest after Mass on Sunday, or hand it in to the Parish Office.
Celebrating the Sacrament
The date and time of the Baptism will be agreed with the parish priest when you hand in your application form. There is no charge for Baptism but it is customary to make a donation to the priest on this occasion.
